Specs and Discussion

Is the GTX 1080 still good?

In May 2016, NVIDIA launched its top-of-the-line graphics card the all-new GeForce GTX 1080. It came with 8 GB of GDDR5X RAM. The GPU operated at the clock speed of ~1600 which could be boosted up to 1733 MHz.

Many tech enthusiasts have mentioned that this graphics card is future-proof for 1080p gaming with a solid fps of 60. And even at 1440p, the game can tackle most games even in 2022.

If you just want raw gaming power and are looking for a budget graphics card, the GTX 1080 would unerringly be your best option. However, due to the volatile nature of the crypto market in 2022, the prices of these cards are significantly higher than what they were a year ago. So, we recommend waiting for some time for the prices to drop before getting your hands on one of these beasts.

The GTX 1080 is slightly powerful than the predecessor GTX 1070. However, studies have found that 1080 is worse at crypto mining than 1070.

As a result, the crypto miners are ignoring the GTX 1080 completely and going for a better graphics card. This will definitely lead to the price drop of the graphics card in near future.

In some of the highly demanding games like Black Ops: Cold War, Crysis 3, and Apex Legends, the card delivers a max fps of 140+ and least fps of 60+ in the 1440p graphic settings.

Slightly less demanding games like CS: GO, and GTV 5 experience a smooth performance of 200+ fps in the max graphic settings in 1440p. The lowest recorded fps values were no less than 100.

Even though these pascal cards lack the Ray tracing technology, it is still a viable option for Gamers and content creators alike. Currently, you can find these GTX 1080 graphic cards on the market at $400- $450. However, we suggest waiting some time for the market to stabilize. Then, you’ll easily get these cards for under $350.
