Are Curved Monitors Good for Gaming?

Curved monitors are one of many staples of gamers. Another may be lots of RGB (Red Green Blue) lighting on their peripherals and even their gaming computers. But do curved monitors actually give any benefits to a gamer? Do they help with productivity? Or are they simply just a coolness factor? All these questions will be answered, and more.

Are Curved Monitors Good For Gaming?

Curved monitors are okay for gaming. The most appealing factor of getting a curved monitor for gamers is that it increases the immersion in games. Because the screen of the monitor bends, it gives an immersive feeling like the game is around you, by seeming to bend to your field of view and also makes the imagery feel more realistic.

If you are a gamer who also may want to be a content creator or likes to create media, how could it help you in that field also? It depends on the aspect ratio of the monitor itself, to get all of the benefits of a curved monitor it can’t be the standard 16:9 aspect ratio (or 1920 by 1080 pixels in the screen).

For curved monitors to be effective they must be a 21:9 aspect ratio instead, for 1080p systems this is 2560 × 1080 pixels in the screen, this is also known as an ultra-wide monitor. All these added pixels do however help with multitasking.

Productivity

With all this added room on your virtual desktop, you can have many different programs open at once, whether it being coding and research or watching some shows while relaxing playing some Minecraft, you can do it all on one monitor, no more need to look at other monitors.

In coding one of these monitors can be especially useful. When coding there can be lots of pages you need to keep track of and now you can have them all up at the same time. In researching for a school paper, the same thing applies.

Possible Disadvantages

To actually get the promised benefit of immersion, you have to get an ultra-wide monitor. This can be a gain or a very expensive factor for increasing immersion. Ultrawide monitors are very expensive and may not be worth the added immersion of the monitor, however, if you have the money that you are willing to spend then it can be a very enjoyable experience.

What this topic then comes down to is that is it worth the money for gamers for added immersion? If someone is on a small budget then is it really worth the money for a high-end ultrawide monitor? Another thing that adds to the price and that needs to be considered is the refresh rate, the response time, and the type of panel.

Even if you have been saving up, and think that a curved ultra-wide is worth the hefty price tag, you may need to upgrade your computer first. With the added pixels, the new high-end monitor may impact frames greatly if you only have a medium-end gaming GPU.

Is all that money really worth it for a little added immersion? That is for you to decide.
