Apple released one of the highest-selling phones of the Apple ecosystem, the iPhone XR in September 2018. And by the end of 2019, almost 46 million phones were already shipped.
A renowned tech journalist, ‘Raymond Wong’ from Mashable announced that this iPhone was a perfect fit for everyone. And even though the resolution and the bezels could have been better, we still second his opinion.
We know with every new version of the iPhone, the older ones drop in price. Some of us who are budget buyers take that as an opportunity to finally get our hands on the most premium brand on the planet. So, is the iPhone XR still worth buying in 2021? This post has everything you need to know about whether or not this device is worth holding onto.
iPhone XR Specifications
The iPhone XR flaunts the cleanest designs in the latest iPhone series so far. Most of it is due to its single camera. The screen-to-body ratio is 82.9% which is not that great in 2021. However, it features the same A12 Bionic chip as that of the iPhone XS and iPhone XS. Given the fact that both the phones are much more expensive than the XR, it is a bang for the buck!
Pros of iPhone XR
iPhone XR is IP67 rated and has amazing build quality. Most consumers think this is the most aesthetically pleasing iPhone so far while being the most affordable one at the same time. By this time, you’d probably want to close the blog and go buy yourself on but wait.
The iPhone XR has 1GB less ram than its closest competitor iPhone XS. But even with just 3GB of RAM, the iPhone XR feels just as fast as any new Apple device. In addition, the apple ecosystem is renowned to bring amazing software updates for its previous models so the iPhone XR will never get outdated in terms of performance, hardware, or software.
One of the downsides we have noticed on the phone is that it has a really small battery. The 2942 mAh battery tends to die real quick especially when the battery life degrades over time in old phones.
The low-resolution display makes up for it by consuming less battery than newer models. The front camera has just 7 megapixels but still manages to take decent photographs. In addition, the iPhone XR has a single back camera, which might make it less reliable when taking professional photos. However, for casual users, the camera quality is still sufficient.

Looking at everything, we are confident that buying an iPhone XR in 2021 is a great decision. The phone comes in about $400 in the used market. And if you want to be extra-economic, you can get one for around $300 with minor scratches. To be honest, it is a small price to pay for a phone that competes with the flagship phones of 2018. To top it off, iPhone XR will still receive software updates from Apple for many years to come.
